How to clasp a pearl necklace?

I have a pearl necklace. It has a very unusual clasp and I cannot seem to figure out how to secure it. There is a thin flat gold piece that looks almost like a duck's head with an elongated bill on one end. On the other end of the necklace is a filigree oval with openings. I just can't figure this out.
