Telomerase activation and suppression?

According to a 2009 presentation at the Manhattan Beach Project given by William H. Andrews, Ph.D, the CEO of Sierra Sciences, there are approximately 30 substances that have been found that will activate telomerase in somatic cells. The only such substance that is currently available for people to use is TA-65, a proprietary molecule that is extracted from astragulus root by TA Sciences under license from Geron Corporation and sold as a neutraceutical. (The exact mechanism by which TA-65 activates telomerase in somatic cells is unknown.) There's really no reason to suppress telomerase in healthy somatic cells, but suppression of telomerase in cancer cells has been achieved by a number of drugs that are currently in clinical trials in the hopes of being used as cancer vaccines, the first of which I heard about being Pharmexa's GV1001.
