All my letter and pictures have become elongated in the vertical direction. I have a Compaq monitorfor desk?

How can I bring the letteirig and pictures into normal shape. I have tried the menu on the screen to and tries to ajjust oval shaped and elongated letter to normal standar,but no luck.
